DP COURSES AND COMPANIES IN INDIA

Since the DP Courses are not STCW Controlled so the DG Shipping does not control Marine DP Training Institutes, rather as told before in earlier posts its governed by the Nautical Institute (NI).

The NI approved Marine College for DP Courses in India are :
 1. Sir Derek Bibby Maritime Training Centre or St. Xavier’s Technical Institute,
 2. YAK DP Training Centre and
 3. Dynamic Positioning Centre (Mumbai)

The details of the first two colleges can be obtained from jahajee.com - marine course tab at www.jahajee.com/marine-course/

The 3rd Marine college details are :
Dynamic Positioning Centre (Mumbai)
501 Delphi “A” Wing, Orchard Avenue,
Hiranandani Bus Park,
Powai,
Mumbai - 400076

Dynamic Positioning Officer and Sea-time Calculation

This post is in continuation of my previous post DYNAMIC POSITIONING TRAINING & DP COURSES FOR DP OPERATOR

Only watch-keeping sea-time gained on board DP vessels officially classed as DP Vessel by one of the classification societies (Certificate on board) will be counted towards the required sea-time.

Minimum Seatime required for Stage 4 of the Dynamic Positioning Training Scheme
>> DP 1 Vessels only     : 180 days watch-keeping on board DP 1 vessels       =    Limited certificate

>> DP 2 Vessels only     : 180 days watch-keeping on board DP 2 or 3 vessels  =    Full/Unlimited certificate

>> Mixed DP Class vessels : If served on board various DP class vessels and want to obtain a Full/Unlimited certificate then Watch-keeping time must include at least 60 days DP2 or DP 3 time.

DYNAMIC POSITIONING TRAINING & DP COURSES FOR DP OPERATOR

Nautical Institute , in London administers Dynamic Positioning Operator training and certification. The Nautical Institute issue logbooks to trainees, they authorize training centers for DP Courses and control the issuance of DP certificates.

From 1st January 2012, The Nautical Institute will implement the minimum qualification of Trainees for DP Courses as STCW Regulation II/1 - II/2 - II/3 Deck and Regulation III/1 – III /2 – III/3 Engine.

The Dynamic Positioning Training programme is intended to apply to bridge watchkeepers already qualified by means of a certificate of competency as a deck officer / Engineer.
The Dynamic Positioning Training programme involves five phases as follows :
  1. DP Induction or Basic Course.
  2. minimum 30 days seagoing DP familiarisation.

DYNAMIC POSITIONING CLASS OF DP VESSELS

This is in Continuation to my previous post about DYNAMIC POSITIONING SYSTEMS & DYNAMIC POSITIONING VESSEL found at :
http://www.jahajee.com/dynamic-positioning-systems-amp-dynamic-positioning-vessel/180/0.html

A Dynamic Positioning Classed vessel means the vessel must have a DP class notation from a Classification Society and not simply be fitted with Dynamic Positioning equipment. IMO has given guidance on DP equipment classification and redundancy requirements as follows :
  >>  Equipment Class 1 has no redundancy. Loss of position may occur in the event of a single fault.

DP Vessel Types

This is in Continuation to my previous post about DYNAMIC POSITIONING SYSTEMS & DYNAMIC POSITIONING VESSEL found at :
http://www.jahajee.com/dynamic-positioning-systems-amp-dynamic-positioning-vessel/180/0.html

DP ships do not refer to a particular type of ship as any ship can install DP equipments and get itself DP classed if it complies with the classification societies requirements. Thus a shuttle tanker involved with cargo operation with FPSO may be DP Vessel - Shuttle tanker. This is the reason why Dynamic Positioning Jobs always specify the Operation in which the DP vessel is involved. The DP Vessels, for example can be involved in the following operations :
    * accommodation or 'flotel' services
    * Cable-laying

What is Dynamic Positioning ?

This is in Continuation to my previous post about DYNAMIC POSITIONING SYSTEMS & DYNAMIC POSITIONING VESSEL found at :
http://www.jahajee.com/dynamic-positioning-systems-amp-dynamic-positioning-vessel/180/0.html
Dynamic Positioning is a system by which a Marine Ship maintains her position & heading. Similarly Dynamic Tracking enables a DP vessel to maintain a particular track and heading. To maintain this position, head or precision manoeuvrings of the DP vessel sophisticated Computer systems are used. These Dynamic Positioning Systems control the propeller and the thruster of the DP Vessel. These operations occur at sea where mooring or anchoring is not possible due to deep water, pipelines at the bottom or other technical problems and specialized ships in the form of DP Vessel are required.

How Dynamic Positioning System works ?
We are not going into technical jargon but in simple terms the Dynamic Positioning Systems consists mainly of 3 systems :

These days Dynamic Positioning Vessel or DP vessel / DP Ships are the Buzz thing with mariners.
In this and subsequent Forum Posts We will try to talk not only about the Dynamic Positioning Vessel but also brief details about DP system,
DP Class,
Dynamic Positioning training,
dynamic positioning courses,
