CDC Renewal Procedure

Recently I renewed my CDC (CDC Renewal Sticker). One friend sent a mail from his company detailing CDC renewal procedure with covering letter and other formalities. I did not follow their procedure and stuck with CDC renewal procedure laid down in the DG Shipping Circular. You can download my CDC Renewal form filled for reference.
CDC Renewal Procedure broken down into parts which seemed most confusing to me :


e-samudra, DG Shipping Seafarer profile registration

Register & complete your e-Samudra seafarer profile. Completing your DG Shipping Seafarer profile, is mandatory as per DG Guidelines.

I made my DG Shipping profile during Master exams @ e-Samudra dg shipping seafarer registration. While updating, I was confused about Passport number as my Passport was renewed. E samudra do not allow you to delete any previous records so I simply added my new Passport details. Rest I updated few old data and my seafarer profile was complete. You will be asked to recheck again prior taking final printout. You need to submit your profile printout too with the documents required for CDC renewal.

Download the CDC Renewal form @ M.S. Notice 24 of 2012 Dated 04.12.2012 . To me CDC renewal form in itself is self explanatory. It covers not only CDC Renewal but also duplicate and lost CDC replacement procedure. Listing down important points :
# No need of attestation by Gazetted Officer, Self attestaion accepted on copies of your documents.
# Do not forget to write your Full name and date of self attestation also.
# Use only CAPITAL LETTERS while filling your CDC Renewal form.
# Avoid over-writing !
# Fill & send only page number 4 to 8 (first 3 instruction pages are only for reference)
# Write on top left hand of the envelope (containing documents/CDC renewl form) in BLOCK LETTERS Replacement/Duplicate/Revalidation of CDC as required.
# No fees levied for revalidation of CDC (CDC Sticker).
# Write your name on the reverse of your photograph.
# Send the application by Registered / Speed post / Courier service to the Shipping Master (from where CDC was obtained i.e. Mumbai or Kolkata or Chennai address given in the CDC Renewal form)

Few of my personal experience while applying for CDC renewal were :
I copied all the filled and printed pages of CDC.
All documents list send by me attached below.
Kept the documents list simple, did not add covering letter or next of kin details (advised by few shipping companies)

CDC Renewal status

How can one track CDC renewal status once CDC Renewal Form is send ?
You need to send a self addressed post card along with your documents. CDC renewal status will be send back to you on this post card. You will be assigned a file number on this post card for future reference related to your CDC Sticker application.

How long does it take :
18 May 2013 - Dispatched filled CDC Renewal Form, copies of documents.
08 Jun 2013 - Received the file number detailed in self addressed Post Card.
03 Jul 2013 - Received CDC Renewal sticker

What if you do not receive post card or CDC renewal sticker even after 2 months ?
I think the only way to get details then would be first to verify from your post/courier office, date shipment was delivered. Contact DG Shipping by e-mail / registered post OR file an RTI application for CDC Renewal status.

CDC Renewal sticker

I received my CDC Renewal sticker on 03 Jul 2013 almost 1.5 months after I applied for CDC renewal.
Indian CDC contain pages marked "SPACE FOR PASTE OF RENEWAL STICKER" almost at the end of CDC (Page number 29 onwards),please stick your CDC renewal sticker on this page.
