DP Courses involves two shore based training scheme coupled with practical onboard experience:
 # Induction or Basic DP Course and (Stage 1 of the Dynamic Positioning Training Scheme)
 # Simulator or Advanced DP course (Stage 3 of the Dynamic Positioning Training Scheme)

Dynamic Positioning Training - Induction or Basic Course
Induction or basic DP Course is a 4 to 5 day DP Course and fees of this DP Induction Course starts from 70,000 INR. On successful completion of this DP course, the prospective Dynamic Positioning Operator will be issued with a Nautical Institute’s Dynamic Positioning Operator’s logbook in which the DP Courses, seatime and suitability as a DPO are recorded.

One thing to note here is the difference between the NI (Nautical Institute) Logbook and the IMCA (International Marine Contractors Association) logbook.
The NI logbooks are specifically designed for the use of Dynamic Positioning Operators and bridge watchkeeping officers during the operator's training programme. Attendance at the shore-based DP courses (both Basic and Advanced Course), details of DP vessels served upon, tasks engaged upon and relevant DP experience are recorded in the NI Logbook. These entries are signed by the Master, and a record of Dynamic Positioning vessel sea-time is kept.
While in the IMCA logbooks (and the earlier DPVOA logbooks) are intended to be used by all key DP personnel, not only bridge DP watchkeeping officers. IMCA logbooks are intended as a continuous record of DP service and would normally commence after DP training was complete. A page is provided to show details of training courses attended.

Dynamic Positioning Training - Advanced or Simulator Course
Simulator or Advanced DP Course is a 4 to 5 day DP Course and fees of this DP Course starts from 80,000 INR.
